Opposing the Legalization of Recreational Marijuana
April 4, 2024 - The Washington Examiner: Studies show Hawaii was correct to pass on dangerous marijuana legalization.
February 28, 2024: Say NO to Recreational Marijuana: Bill Scheduled for Hearing on Friday, March 1 at 9:50 a.m.
A joint hearing of the Senate Committee on Consumer Protection and Senate Ways and Means has been scheduled for Friday at 9:50 a.m. [Click here for the hearing notice.]
ACTION:
Please take a moment to:
1) Pray for the legislators hearing the bill that they would act on what's best for Hawaii and not for the potential revenue. We need to look at the issue through the lens of safety and caution and not potential income to the State.
2) Call the legislators on the two committees below and ask them politely to VOTE NO ON SB 3335 SD1 Relating to Cannabis.
3) Submit testimony online with the simple message, NO TO RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA.
4) Sign the online petition and send this link out to everyone on your list to do the same! I plan to turn this petition in before crossover on March 7.

Script for Calling Legislators
(Introduction)
Aloha my name is________________.
I am calling as a caring voting member in your district. I do respect and honor Senator/Representative ________________ for working hard to serve our community.
SB 3335 for the legalization of recreational marijuana bill passing through legislation greatly concerns me.
What is Representative or Senator __________________’s stance?
(If they say they are for the bill)
I am against the commercialization of THC because this drug will be marketed like tobacco and alcohol. Youth usage has proved to go up in legalized states as well as increases treatment for addiction, drugged driving, and crime. In Colorado there are more marijuana stores than McDonald’s and Starbucks combined.
(Closing)
Please vote no or (Thank you for voting no) on this harmful bill to keiki and families in our state. If you are for this bill, please consider the great societal risks and change your vote.

February 13, 2024: Senate Committee Hearing
Legalization of recreational marijuana for adults took its first step toward approval at the state Legislature on Tuesday.
That’s after lawmakers heard from both sides at a spirited hearing.
There was only one “no” vote, from state Sen. Brandon Elefante, though several senators expressed reservations as SB 3335 was approved by the Health and Judiciary Committees.
The concept is also supported by the governor.
